Alerts, Tamil New Year, Piano
Yesterday earthquake that struck Indonesia at 2.08 pm, with the magnitude of 8.9 on the Richter scale spurred warnings of a possible tsunami. The quake was later downgraded to 8.6 magnitude. In the evening India has withdrawn the tsunami warning. Andrea talks with Daniel, member of Working Committee about yesterday alert, and how we are prepared for the situation like this. Fence or No Fence
Walk trough Quiet Healing Centre was in a way relief after disastrous areas in communities in Auroville because beside few fallen trees Quiet looks almost as it was. Luckily they got mostly palm trees, which are known for their flexibility and endurance in strong tropical winds. In interview with Guy we found out that the major problem after tropical cyclone Thane is if they would be allowed to fix and erect their fence or not. Quiet hopes that they will find optimal solution for both parties trough ongoing negotiations with local fishermen. Read more

Realistic but Hopeful
Recently built zen house of Sabine and Philippe, residents of Repos community is now roofless, water tank broken, what used to be beautiful blooming fence by buganvilla, is now piece of uprooted shrubs...For Sabine and Philippe Repos is home for more than decade, and both actively participate in community life in Repos, as well in community in whole. Since they were well aware, and realistic of present treat of cyclone Thane on Thursday night, they evacuated themselves overnight, and also informed others and guests about situation. What now? Thane and Erosion
No doubt that last week cyclone Thane raging trough our town and neighboring villages caused lots of damages, and no doubt the worst it was for the beach communities - Repos, Waves, Samarpanam, Gokulam, Symplicity, Quiet, Sri Ma, Eternity. The hardest it was for them not only because they are situated on the beach, where huge waves were crushing the whole coastline in those 12 hours of cyclone, but because beach erosion already affected them seriously last few years. Beach Community or Sea?
That beach erosion is happening for some might be a vague idea but for Repos community is a harsh reality. Fence is gone, guest huts are collapsing...Urgent plea from Sam in the name of community asking us for help with financial means and engineering skills to dome up with an IMMEDIATE solution to the beach erosion. Pavilion of Tibetan Culture in International Zone is celebrating the 6th Tibet Festival in Auroville, and for tomorrow at 7.45 pm at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas tibetan students will give culture dance performance. Tsunami Alarm Service and Diwali
On Tuesday, 25th of October 2011we’re all invited to celebrate Diwali at Bharat Nivas., after delicious common dinner at Solar Kitchen . Program starts at 7.00 pm with fireworks with all our children at the entrance of the Auditorium. Between and 7.30pm to 8.45pm we will see an Indian classical dance. Rapahel from Sri Ma is happy to announce that from next week onwards there will be a new free service for the resident of Auroville's beach communities: Auroville Tsunami Alarm Service (AVTAS).
