On tuesday 13th in Cripa at 9pm Daniela Regnoli has performed Uragani. This is a musical journey in the Germany of the Thirties, through ballads and songs written by Bertolt Brecht and set to music by Kurt Weil, which takes us into the past century's Europe in the period between the two wars. There are stories of women who recall their sixtenneth year of age, when they were still children and ready to fall in love with the first wrongdoer they would meet, women without adolescence who grew up too quickly under the bombs of the 2nd world war. On 13th at CRIPA Nathalie Mentha performes Per Edith Piaf, with the direction and the technical assistance by Pino Di Buduo, from Teatro Potlach in Italy. This performance is a musical journey in France of the 1930s and 1950s through Edith Piaf's songs - stories of lives in the underworld of the French gangsters, stories of women in love, stories of passion, of dreams, of memories. The theme, the soul which ties all the stories together, and maybe even more Edith Piaf's own soul, seems to be: Whatever happens, don't ever stop believing in love. Read more

Shadow Liberation is an experimental theater group of Evan Hastings and his students from Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology in Bangalore. Evan is a theater artist and drama therapist from USA, who directs and produces original performance pieces that grapple with pressing issues while innovative aesthetics invite audience engagement. This participatory theater piece portrays a series of unresolved conflicts around gender oppression and leaves it up to the audience to come on the stage in role and change the outcome. Read more

As part of the Tantidhatri festival, this play was performed in Cripa last thursday. It is played solely by Julia Varley, an artistic director, writer and above all member of Odin Theatret in Denmark. Written by Eugenio Barba, The Castle of Holstebro is a dialogue between a young woman and her eternal companion following the lines of a "stream of consciousness", set in a phantom castle. Two entirely different characters played by just one person is quite a thing to witness. A moving play filled with music and monologues/dialogues.

Odin Teatret is a theatre company based in Holstebro, Denmark. Founded by Italian theatre director Eugenio Barba in 1964, the first company of actors was a group of young artists who failed to gain admission to the Oslo State Theatre School. On Monday, Julia Varley, a member of Odin's company of actors, gave a compelling presentation on the actresses of the Odin Teatret's company. Throughout the hour, Julia spoke to the strength, exploration, and some of the work that she and her fellow actresses have been engaging in for over 20 years. Read more

Visting artist Carrie Dashow shared her work with the Auroville community on the 6th of January at MMC. Dashow, a performance and video artist, lives and works in New York City. Dashow uses music, performance, video and subject participation to examine questions of citizenship, subjectivity, and community. For her most recent piece, Yesiree Public Notary, Dashow served as a Public Notary at the Occupy Wall Street movement notarizing the testimonials of those partaking in the protests. Read more

Although already without power (was a Thursday night just before cyclone Thane), Korean artist and many of those who were delighted to experience some literary art from Korean and Indian artist came to the Pavilion of Tibetan Culture. Aster Patel opened with Sri Aurobindo's Cosmic Consciousness, after the greetings from Choi ChangGeun and Sarasija. And that poetry doesn't know the boundaries was clear after listening melodic poems in Korean language without really cacthing the meaning but understanding the beauty of written word. Read more

In the lyrical drama based on the story from Mahabharata, visiting Morodokami theater troupe from Thailand perfomed with a contemporary approach Thai traditional and many of today's images. With this play they want to honor Tagore's work that his message is timeless as his work is always worthwhile, in this almost hopelessly selfish world of materialism, giving a lesson to today’s official leaders of the world that, unofficially, the mission of building mankind has been a task of the poet since the beginning and still is.
