content (Education) Opening presentation on 'Mission Auroville': an experiment in cultural geography by 6 Polish artists who are visiting Auroville for 2 months. Vocabulary of culture texts produced in Poland often deals with questions on historical and personal fears and mishappenings. The project aims at confronting these kinds of attitudes with utopian, optimistic and future-oriented reality of Auroville. The project is a colaboration between Museum of Art in Lodz and Kala Kendra Gallery with support from Goldex Poldex and the Adam Mickiewicz Insitute. Read more Wednesday, 15 February 2012 (City Life) February 11th 2012: Ted MacDonald, the athlete experimenting with running on bare feet gave an inspiring speech for the marathon runners. There was that much interest in his talk that the speech had to be given in the open air, on the Visitors Centre's square. Ted spoke of his view on running with or without shoes and his journey to find the ultimate running experience, and encouraged people to keep running and keep searching for their own perfect way of doing so. Undoubtedly, Barefoot Ted gave every runner the power they need for the marathon!

Saturday, 11 February 2012 (Arts & Culture) Just before his departure Marc Vella honored us with his last concert in Auroville, and first concert at CRIPA Hall in Kalabhumi. How strongly Aurovilians grown to fond of him was very much obvious not only by the numbers but also by respectful and loving attitude of the audience. Marc who shares his music and love with gentleness and utmost respect invited for that afternoon some of the performing and other artist to join him on the stage. Before leaving he assured us that his Love Caravan will start next year in Auroville.

Tuesday, 07 February 2012 (Arts & Culture) With the opening concert by the Auroville Choir, CRIPA - The Center for Research in the Performing Arts, opened its doors. Afsanah shortly introduced the purpose of CRIPA, which is near its completion, with the songs of the Auroville Choir led by Nuria. Sound design of CRIPA was led by Didier, and the sounds of the Auroville Choir quickly proved the quality of Didier's design. Although the Performance Hall in CRIPA is a large space, its capacity couldn't accommodate the great amount of people who wanted to listen to the opening concert.

Monday, 06 February 2012 (Health) Sports ground at Certitude, the field next to and Udavi sports ground were very lively past weekend with Hat Tournament , which is ultimate frisbee tournament a different way with mixed team, as Mark explained it to us. Twelve teams consisted of seven players played for four games (long 1h15m) in the morning and two games in the afternoon on all three fields. Ultimate frisbee is more self sponsored sport with clear spirit of sportmanship; ultimate is different, one has to keep it cool, know the rules, has to call it fair and work in a team.

They offered to Auroville devotional songs by Beinsa Duno, a Bulgarian spiritual master who wrote;"Music is the first visible indication fo love. The aim of music is to uplift hte human soul. Within music the great laws of the cosmic creation and the creative Spirit of the existence are hidden." Beside his songs numerous audience was excited over other classical pieces .

Friday, 06 January 2012 (City Life) That Shakespeare is far from being boring proved group of actors, mainly consisted from Aikiyam School Students, and lots of good will of volunteers all leaded by Hazel from Manchester. Short span of time they had to put play on the stage didn't stop them to do it the best they could. Dialogs were well learnt and spoken, costumes colorful and set simple but adequate to bring out the magic of the play and theater experience itself. On the premiere on Firday 2nd of December first audience were Aikiyam students enjoyed and laughed in it.

Heimanot Alemu as master of ceremony commenting talks on his own witty and humorous way. As we had a chance to see later, during the week, he is a man of many talents. Heimanot breifly explain to the numerous Ethiopian public what the Auroville stands for, and the purpose of this meeting with short description of all the talks and presentations. Wednesday, 21 September 2011 (Environment) Since 2009 world is celebrating, in order to raise awareness of versatile and sustainable aspects of bamboo, World Bamboo Day. Auroville celebrated it with numerous events, workshops. What had started as bamboo dinner at Visitors Centre past Saturday, was followed by unique fashion show made by Kiran and Lea out of bamboo fabric. This year's theme Flower Power was truly in joyful and fresh approach in bright colors and one of the kind cuts, all in loving mood. Bamboo Band and Yemadas kept the thread of joy over life in their performance.

Sunday, 18 September 2011 (City Life) Open doors once a month is a new addition of L'Avenir d'Auroville services to community members. In the interview with Dorle and Sauro we found out why more interactive approach needs to be taken if whole community wants to work on development of the city. Shortage of houses is a sore spot for years, and reasons for that are various. The new proposal of numerous projects from L'Avenir team was recently published, and it did stir up the community and bring positive and negative feedback along with the hope that things are moving.
Thursday, 15 September 2011 (Education) Last Saturday's Open House at Auroville Bamboo Research Centre thre was a chance to see on display almost everything about bamboo. With its versatile qualities, practical and artistic aspects, bamboo does inspire almost anybody who makes contact with it. In comparison with last year the progress at Bamboo Research Centre is clearly visible. The whole area is vibrant with new and rejuvenating energies, and smiling faces are all around. We talked shortly with Balu and Walter about the World Bamboo Day celebrations and about the Centre.

Wednesday, 07 September 2011 (City Life) With announcement about temporarily "closed" doors of Entry Service caused for the first time in their mandate since 2009 to get some feedback from a cross section of the community. We need the human asset in order for community to grow, we need energy, expertise, finances - everything that committed new comer can bring. Entry Service is in charge of screening candidates, but if the community doesn't fully open the doors by providing the infrastructure necessary to welcome new comers, the Entry Service is more like bouncers.
Friday, 02 September 2011 (Economy) The textile design studio Upasana had opened their doors last Saturday afternoon to welcome the public with tea and snacks. Many came some even from fare to get to know about the inspiring social development projects that have been created here. During this occasion Uma, the founder of this unit, has shared how she has started Upasana in 1997 in a little hut with only one sewing machine and no electricity and how it developed into what it is today. After Mandakini who is one of the project leaders talked with us about her experiences.

The Transit Longue has been specifically designed for Aurovillians and Newcomers as a housing solution in order to ease the pressure of shifting houses every one or two years and to help integrate themeselves in Auroville. The intention is to
provide freedom and choice to a community of smaller groups that can co-exist creatively and peacefully. The prototypes of individual designs of housing units proposed by various builders was also discussed.

Thursday, 16 June 2011 (City Life) L'Avenir d'Auroville in cooperation with the technology company Dura-Line hosted an informational meeting on "Existing Synergy Opportunity for Infrastructure Development".
The meeting presented Polyethylene Piping Systems solutions which would serve gray water/black water treatment and infrastructure development works in the Auroville Community. We have recorded the presentation and discussions of subjects related to distribution schemes, connection between houses and communities, environmental impact, construction and costs, more efficient drip irrigation systems, gray and black water treatment and much more. The presentation was held at the Town Hall, in conference hall on June 4th .

Saturday, 04 June 2011 (City Life) For this weeks update on the Transit Lounge, we accompanied potential users to a site visit of the Living House by architect Ajay. We have interviewed the architect, followed by feedback and comments from potential users on the construction and its features. The Living House, which is one of the new prototypes for the Transit Lounge/ Temporary Housing Project, is made from natural materials obtained from local villages/environment. Thus it comes with a low carbon footprint, while preserving local tradition and crafts. Ajay and his family have been living for more than 4 years in the house made from stone, mud, bamboo and a grass/ reed thatched roof, which should last 10-20 years.
