This event has been broadcast live and recorded.
Dipak Suchde, who was in Auroville in April this year for an organic farming workshop, is coming again on the 16th of August and will conduct another workshop for two days.
The first workshop generated a lot of interest both from Aurovilians and Ashramites and the organiser of these visits had been asked by many to invite him again.
Programme for Deepak Suchde’s Organic Farming workshop 16th and 17 August:
16th Aug 9.00am – 11.00am at the Conference Room, Town Hall
This workshop is a sequel to the one conducted in April, so anyone who was not there, and wants to join this one is requested not to miss this session. This will be a summary of the important things that were explained last time, namely how to improve the soil quality, and plant health, how to find the feeder roots, the relation of the roots with the canopy and the quantity of the produce, common mistakes etc.
11 – 11.40 tea break
After this we will visit Samata’s garden in Transformation. 11.40 am – 12.40pm. Samata has followed the technique for nursery soil production and has planted papayas on this soil, so we can see and discuss the effectiveness of this method on the crop and the difficulties (if any). Also we can see the difference between the regular soil and this soil and the effects of this method in this short period.
12.40 – 2. 15 – lunch break. (Lunch is not provided).
2.15 pm – approx 5 pm we will meet a Discipline farm - (papaya, pineapple, bananas, soursop, avacado, guava, coconut, passion fruit, white sapota, lemon, tomatoes, sweet potato, lettuce and chinese cabbage, raddish, basil, rosella and more) where some hints will be given about how to improve the plant health and production etc where and if needed. Pruning may be demonstrated.
17th Aug – 9.00 am to 5.00 pm at Matrikunj and Lake Estate (mango, coconut, saputa, guava, lemon, pinapples, papaya, kitchen garden and vegetables).
We will meet at Matrikunj where Baburam and collegues have made nursery soil and are using the methods suggested by Deepak Suchde in a small area, but where they are also using other methods eg. Vermicomposting. We can compare the advantages and disadvantages of each one. The main emphasis here will be on how to prune fruit trees as well as vegetables in order to increase the production. Please bring your pruning shears.
How to get to Lake Estate/ Maitrikunj – take the first left after Aurobrindavan on the Koot Road and go straight along this road (Puthurai Rd) for about 4- 5 km. For all those who do not know the way, there is the possibility of meeting outside Auro Orchard at 8.30 am and going together from there. For those who do not have transport, there is limited transport available.
Please let us know on the 16th if you are coming and how you will come. Or call Nandita 2623007 and leave a clear message on the machine indicating that you will come. We need to know how many to count for lunch on that day.
